Junk removal in Myrtle Beach

Around Myrtle Beach, a dresser in decent shape doesn't have to go in a dumpster. The Horry County Solid Waste Authority runs a resale shop called The Store, at 1874 Highway 90. You can drop good furniture there, or leave it in a "Store Drop Off" shed at select recycling centers.

Broken furniture goes in the bulk waste containers at the authority's 25 Recycling Convenience Centers. Those centers are only for people living in the unincorporated parts of Horry County, so if your house sits inside the Myrtle Beach city limits or another town, they aren't open to you. Each resident can bring up to 4 cubic yards a day in total. Mattresses go in at any center, as do TVs, computer monitors and printers for recycling. A business with old mattresses takes them to the landfill instead.

Remodel leftovers head to the landfill at 1886 Highway 90 in Conway. It takes shingles, clean wood, concrete, asphalt, brick and mixed construction debris, and it asks you to keep those separate. Cardboard, wood, metal, plastic, carpet and carpet padding can go to its construction recycling program. Old paint goes to the authority's household hazardous waste facility, up to 20 gallons a month. That facility is for residents only, with no contractors or contractor vehicles.

Plan the trip around your center's schedule. The centers open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, and all but two sites, Socastee and the landfill, also close at least one day a week.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
