Junk removal in Spartanburg

Spartanburg treats a fridge left out in the yard as more than an eyesore. The city's property maintenance rules list appliances and furniture among the things prohibited on residential lots, right beside construction debris, scrap metal and junk.

Getting rid of one piece is simple if the city collects your garbage. It serves single-family homes and apartment buildings of five units or fewer. Set the furniture or appliance 3 feet from your gray cart. The collection crew tells the Solid Waste staff it's there, and it's usually gone within one to two business days. Several items, or bigger and heavier ones, take longer.

The city won't take tires, electronics, or construction debris and yard waste from a contractor. For those, the city refers you to Spartanburg County Solid Waste. The county runs 17 staffed recycling centers, open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except Wellford, which closes at 4:30. They aren't interchangeable. Large appliances go only to Cowpens, Hobbysville, Enoree, Stone Station and Wellford. Electronics go only to White Stone, Cooley Springs, Hobbysville and Wellford. Tires and yard trimmings are listed only at the Wellford Landfill on Little Mountain Road.

Your own brush stays a city pickup. Split it into three piles: brush, grass clippings and leaves. Keep limbs under 6 feet long and 6 inches thick, with no stumps, dirt or plastic bags. Crews work the city in a clockwise rotation, and the weekly area list is only an estimate that weather and equipment can shift, so check it before anything goes to the curb.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
