Stucco repair in Dayton
Late on May 27, 2019, an EF4 tornado cut a 20-mile path from near Brookville through Trotwood and Dayton into Riverside. The National Weather Service put its top winds at 170 mph. Near Riverside Drive and the Stillwater River, well-built apartment buildings lost their roofs and exterior walls entirely, and a wider band of high-end EF3 damage ran back through eastern Trotwood. It was one of 19 tornadoes the Wilmington office tracked in a few hours that night, the largest outbreak in the office's history.
Next door in Oakwood, stucco is part of the look. The Oakwood Historical Society calls English Tudor Revival the hallmark of Oakwood architecture, with exteriors in brick, stucco or both, often with half-timbering. The city's Italian Renaissance and Spanish Revival houses are clad in stucco too, though the society says Craftsman is actually the most common style in town. It counts Oakwood among the best-preserved early 20th-century communities in Ohio. If you own one of those houses, your stucco may be as old as the house, and repairs on a wall from the 1910s or 1920s are slow, careful work.
