Fence or deck in Port St. Lucie

In Port St. Lucie, the city has reserved the right to use and cross private land through city-owned easements, for stormwater and drainage, water, sewer and reuse lines. That shapes where your fence can go. The Building Department's fence checklist says unpermitted work that hinders a city easement is prohibited. Inside a 20-foot-wide city easement, a fence may be allowed if you're granted a revocable encroachment permit.

The word revocable matters. If the city asks, you have to remove the fence from the easement, permitted or not, and the removal is on you. If you don't do it, the city can, under Chapter 55 of its code, and then collect from the owner.

Pools follow their own track. If the fence will double as the pool safety barrier and goes in while the pool is being built, its application goes in with the pool permit. A stand-alone pool barrier permit asks for installation instructions, a gate detail and the barrier's height.

An ordinary fence permit here is a zoning permit filed with the Building Department. The application asks for the material, the height and whether the lot is on a corner. You initial that you've received the city code sections that govern fences, and both the installer and the owner sign in front of a notary. Attach a survey or an accessory use map that shows where the fence goes.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo tells us a lot about the material and size, but a local pro who walks the yard will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is a fence priced versus a deck?
Fences are usually priced by the foot and decks by the square foot. We’ll ask one quick question to tell which you’re after, then size it from your photo and your answers.
Which materials can you estimate?
Wood, vinyl, chain-link and metal for fences; pressure-treated wood and composite for decks. Material is the single biggest price swing, so it’s worth picking the one you want.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A wide shot of where the fence or deck will go — or of the old one you’re replacing — works best.
