Garage door in the East North Central states

In Illinois, an attached garage is one of the things that brings a house under the state's carbon monoxide alarm law. Since 2007, the Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm Act has required a CO alarm in any home with an attached garage, within 15 feet of every bedroom. The State Fire Marshal says don't run a car in the garage, even with the door open. Back it out. So a door that sticks halfway, or an opener that won't lift it on a cold morning, is more than a nuisance.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. Your garage door shows up clearly in a photo — its size, material, and condition — but a pro who checks the springs and opener in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
What changes the price of a garage door?
First, whether you’re repairing or replacing — a spring or opener fix costs far less than a new door. For a replacement, the size (single vs double), the material (steel is cheapest, wood the priciest), and whether you add a new opener are the big factors.
Can you tell if my spring is broken from a photo?
Not reliably — a broken spring or a failing opener usually doesn’t show in a photo of a closed door. We’ll give you a repair range, but the exact part is best confirmed in person.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A straight-on shot of the whole garage door from the driveway, plus a close-up of any damage like a dented panel, gives us the best read.
