Junk removal in the East North Central states
Michigan and Wisconsin each set terms before yard waste or old tires reach a landfill. Michigan says grass, leaves, sticks and trimmings should be composted. Only clippings that are diseased, infested or part of an invasive species control program can be landfilled. Its landfills may take a tire once it's cut in half, shredded or chipped. Wisconsin bans landfilling waste tires and yard waste, including brush under six inches across. Either may be burned with energy recovery instead, and yard waste can go to an approved compost site.
