Junk removal in Durham
Measure your trailer before you load it for a Durham County convenience site. Trailers can't be longer than 8 feet, and side rails can't top 4 feet. Dual-wheeled vehicles, box trucks, enclosed trailers and commercial vehicles aren't allowed.
The county runs three staffed sites for residents of unincorporated Durham County: Northern Durham in Rougemont, Parkwood on Highway 55, and Redwood on Electra Road. Redwood is closed for renovation, and Parkwood's hours expanded to cover it. To get in, you need the blue 25-26 Solid Waste Decal, which came as an insert with the August 2025 property tax bill. Decals go only to unincorporated properties with a home, so if you live inside the City of Durham, you won't have one.
With the decal, furniture, mattresses and large toys go in the bulky drop-off, one dump per week. It has to be residential waste. If someone paid you to haul it, the county counts it as commercial and turns it away. Construction and demolition material is out too, even from a project you did yourself: wood waste, rolls of carpet, drywall, windows, treated lumber, toilets and tile.
For that debris, the county keeps a courtesy list of outlets and asks you to call each one before you go. The City of Durham's Waste Disposal & Recycling Center on East Club Boulevard is on it. Of the rest, all but one have addresses outside Durham, in Apex, Holly Springs, Wendell and the state capital.
