Junk removal in Raleigh

Raleigh sorts big items into two kinds of loads before a truck comes. A Bulky Load is household stuff too big for your cart: couches, recliners, bed frames, mattresses and box springs, a push mower with the fuel emptied. The city pictures one load as about two couches or three queen mattresses, and caps it at 4 cubic yards, or 6 feet long, 3 feet wide and 4 feet high. Fridges, freezers, ranges, washers and dryers go as a Special Load instead, along with exercise equipment and extra yard waste or garbage bags.

Both are charged by the load on your next utility bill, in full-load steps, so a half load isn't prorated. To book, call Solid Waste Services with your name, address, phone number and a description of the items. That description decides which kind of load you get, so be specific. Set everything 5 feet from mailboxes, light poles and cars. Cancel by noon the business day before.

The city never takes batteries, glass, tires, car parts, treated lumber or construction debris.

Electronics are a third collection, and the day is changing: starting October 26, 2026, e-waste pickup runs on Mondays only.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
