Junk removal in Fort Collins

Fort Collins puts most houses on one city trash contract, with Republic Services. It covers single-family homes and small buildings with seven or fewer units inside city limits. Bigger apartment buildings, condos, homes on dumpsters and HOAs with an exemption aren't part of it. You can opt out and choose your own hauler, but you pay a fee to do it.

The contract comes with two free bulk items a year. Each one has to weigh under 60 pounds, with no side longer than 6 feet. The city's examples are an old vacuum, dining chairs, luggage, a nightstand, a card table or a wicker chair. Anything over 6 feet or 60 pounds costs extra, based on size and weight. Bulk pickups keep running in winter, even while yard trimmings collection takes its break from Nov. 30 to April 1.

Hauling it yourself means a new destination. Larimer County closed its landfill on August 3, 2026, and moved disposal to the Central Diversion & Transfer Station at 2388 West Trilby Road. The county says that's the place for people living in or near Fort Collins and Loveland. The new North Landfill near Wellington serves commercial haulers and residents within about 10 miles of that town.

The old landfill entrance still has a job. Household hazardous waste and electronics recycling stay there, and the hazardous waste drop-off is closed to the public every Wednesday.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
