Pressure washing in Charlotte

If a pressure washing crew in Charlotte fills its tank from a fire hydrant, Charlotte Water has rules for that. Under city code, only the Charlotte Fire Department and Charlotte Water may use a hydrant without a special permit. Anyone else needs a temporary hydrant permit or a tanker permit for the truck, and every temporary hydrant connection is metered.

This year the bigger rule is the drought. Charlotte Water put its Stage 2 mandatory water restrictions in place on May 15, 2026, and its drought page still lists them in October 2026. Under Stage 2, discretionary power washing is out. Power washing may still be allowed if a licensed business does it. The restrictions cover municipal drinking water, so a home on its own well can use that water without restriction. Charlotte Water can also deny hydrant service depending on water use restrictions.

If your neighborhood falls under North Carolina's Planned Community Act, a fine over a green wall or a grimy driveway comes with steps. Unless your declaration sets its own procedure, you get notice and a hearing first. Once a fine is decided, more can be added for each day the problem goes on past five days after the decision.

On a tanker, the permit shows. Charlotte Water's tanker permit calls for an approved meter mounted on the truck, a permanently mounted air-gap separation the utility has approved, and a permit decal on all registered equipment.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on the surface and how dirty it is, but a pro who sees the whole property will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is pressure washing priced?
Mostly by the square footage and the surface — a concrete driveway is cheaper per foot than siding or a wood deck, which need a gentler soft-wash. Heavy algae, mildew, or oil stains add to it because they take detergent and a second pass.
Will pressure washing damage my siding or deck?
It can if it’s done at full pressure on the wrong surface — that’s why good pros soft-wash siding and wood. Our ballpark factors in the gentler method for delicate surfaces.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot showing the full surface you want cleaned — the whole driveway or the side of the house — gives the best read on the size and how dirty it is.
