Stucco repair in Lakeland
Lakeland has seven historic districts, from Munn Park and Dixieland to East and South Lake Morton, and every one is locally designated by city ordinance. Before you make an exterior change to a house in one of them, you apply for design review and a Certificate of Review. Work started without one carries a penalty fee.
The city's design guidelines say Lakeland's historic houses typically wear one of three skins, or a mix: wood siding, painted masonry or cement-based stucco, and brick. For stucco the guidance is short. Keep the surface uniform, whether it's smooth or rough cast, and replace worn material with new material that duplicates the old as nearly as possible. On a 1920s Mediterranean Revival house, that means a plasterer, not a paint crew.
Much of the metro, though, is new. From mid-2024 to mid-2025 the Lakeland-Winter Haven metro grew 2.7 percent, fourth fastest in the country, and about 45 percent of its homes were built in 2000 or later, Census estimates show. So the stucco you're dealing with may well be only a few years old.
