Stucco repair in Tampa
Not every stucco wall in Tampa sits on concrete block. Davis Islands has a National Register group of Mediterranean Revival buildings, dating from 1925 on. One of them, 301 Caspian Street, went up in late 1925 with stucco over hollow clay tile. On tile like that, stucco bonds straight to the masonry, with no lath.
Fixing old stucco is its own craft. The National Park Service's repair guide says to choose a patch mix only after the existing stucco has been analyzed. Old and new stuccos that swell and shrink at different rates normally crack where they meet. If your house is near a hundred years old, ask the crew how they'll match it before anyone mixes a bag.
Where you live in the city matters too. Tampa has four local historic districts: Hyde Park, Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights and Ybor City. The city's preservation office lists exterior repairs as work that goes through a Certificate of Appropriateness. In Ybor the Barrio Latino Commission reviews it, and the Architectural Review Commission handles the others. Build that review time into your plans.
Pick your season with the Gulf in mind. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and NOAA puts its peak around September 10. A full re-coat on a bayfront house is best booked well clear of that window.
