Stucco repair costs in Poughkeepsie

Poughkeepsie's weather records go back to 1931, and the wettest year on the list is recent. In 2011 the gauge caught 62.01 inches of rain and melted snow, against a 1991–2020 normal of 41.90. Two other years since then, 2018 and 2023, also topped 50 inches.

A wet year is a stress test for stucco. Water gets in where it always does, at a cracked corner, a window head or a roof edge, and a long run of wet weeks gives it few chances to dry back out. The damage tends to show up later: a stain under a sill, paint that bubbles, a soft spot near the ground.

The housing here comes in two layers. In the city of Poughkeepsie, about 41 percent of homes were built before 1940, Census estimates show. Across the whole metro, about one in five homes went up in 2000 or later. An old house in the city and a newer one out in the towns can have very different walls behind a similar-looking finish.

The rulebook changed recently, too. The state's 2025 Uniform Code took effect December 31, 2025. From that date, building permit applications have to meet it, including the state's new 2025 Residential Code. If your stucco job needs a permit, it's now judged against the new book.
