Garage door in Miami

Look on the side track of a garage door in a Miami house, on the bottom angle, or on the inside face of a panel. One approval for a steel sectional door, issued by Miami-Dade County's Product Control Section in June 2026, puts a permanent label in one of those three spots. It names the maker and the model, gives the door's positive and negative design pressure, says whether it's impact rated, and lists its Notice of Acceptance number with the words "Miami-Dade County Product Control Approved."

That approval is written for one door. It covers widths up to 9 feet 2 inches and is rated against both large and small missile impact. Its description stops at that width. If you're thinking of trading two single doors for one double, make sure the new door's approval covers the wider opening.

The county's building department treats a garage door replacement as a stand-alone permit. You file an elevation drawing of each wall where a door is being swapped, showing roughly where each door sits, its size and its approval number. You also hand in a current approval for every door. The county takes either its own Notice of Acceptance or an approval from the Florida Building Commission.

Keep the paperwork that comes with the new door. The maker or its dealer has to give you a full copy of the approval, and it has to be on hand at the job site if the building official asks to see it.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. Your garage door shows up clearly in a photo — its size, material, and condition — but a pro who checks the springs and opener in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
What changes the price of a garage door?
First, whether you’re repairing or replacing — a spring or opener fix costs far less than a new door. For a replacement, the size (single vs double), the material (steel is cheapest, wood the priciest), and whether you add a new opener are the big factors.
Can you tell if my spring is broken from a photo?
Not reliably — a broken spring or a failing opener usually doesn’t show in a photo of a closed door. We’ll give you a repair range, but the exact part is best confirmed in person.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A straight-on shot of the whole garage door from the driveway, plus a close-up of any damage like a dented panel, gives us the best read.
