Garage door in the West North Central states

Minnesota wrote garage door openers into state law in 1990. Since 1993, an opener installed in the state has needed an edge sensor, a safety beam or a similar device that reverses a closing door, built so the door won't close if that device fails. A technician who finds one that doesn't comply can't repair it unless the repair brings it up to standard. Renting? If the reverse stops working, the law says to tell the owner within 24 hours of finding out.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. Your garage door shows up clearly in a photo — its size, material, and condition — but a pro who checks the springs and opener in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
What changes the price of a garage door?
First, whether you’re repairing or replacing — a spring or opener fix costs far less than a new door. For a replacement, the size (single vs double), the material (steel is cheapest, wood the priciest), and whether you add a new opener are the big factors.
Can you tell if my spring is broken from a photo?
Not reliably — a broken spring or a failing opener usually doesn’t show in a photo of a closed door. We’ll give you a repair range, but the exact part is best confirmed in person.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A straight-on shot of the whole garage door from the driveway, plus a close-up of any damage like a dented panel, gives us the best read.
