Junk removal in Akron

Akron's bulk pickup isn't just for one big couch. The city built it for volume too: the bags and boxes you end up with after a move, or after clearing out a basement or garage. Each home gets three Special Bulk Volume Pickups a year. A couch or a fridge that won't fit in your cart goes out through the same bulk option.

You set it up with the city's 3-1-1 Call Center, at least one working day before your collection day. Nothing goes to the curb before 4:30 p.m. the day before. Old tires can go out too, as long as they sit 3 feet from your cart.

Your carts can't take roofing, concrete, plaster, dirt, sand, gravel, bricks, drywall or other construction and demolition debris. Plan for that before a kitchen or bathroom comes apart.

Paint, chemicals and other hazardous waste go to ReWorks, Summit County's solid waste authority, at its center on Graham Road in Stow. The city notes that the center takes hazardous materials during the summer months. ReWorks also holds Recycling Days for TVs and computer monitors, two of each per vehicle, open only to Summit County residents and businesses.

Before you count on any of this, check your building. Akron's trash service covers freestanding homes of one, two or three families. In a bigger building, the city's carts and bulk pickups aren't yours to use.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
