Junk removal in Columbus

Columbus will pick up a couch for you, but only once it's on the schedule. Nothing gets collected unless you book it first, through 311 online or by phone. Furniture, mattresses, rolled carpet and appliances without refrigerant all qualify. Leave furniture assembled, tape any glass, and roll carpet into bundles about 4 feet long, tied with rope. On your scheduled day, put it in front of the house, or at the alley line if that's where your trash goes.

The city's curb list leaves out building materials, auto parts and tires, and anything hazardous. To drive bulk items in yourself, use the city's Waste and Reuse Convenience Centers at Alum Creek and Georgesville.

Anything that cools is the exception. The city won't collect refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers, water coolers or air conditioners. For those, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio, known as SWACO, runs a Recycling Convenience Center on Jackson Pike. It takes freon appliances as well as washers and dryers, TVs and household electronics, tires, car batteries and fluorescent bulbs. It's open weekdays and Saturdays, for Franklin County residents only.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
