Junk removal in Reno
Reno's trash deal with Waste Management builds in some slack for overflow. Customers get 20 excess-waste stickers a year. Put one on an extra bag and it goes out on your regular service day, any time of year. The franchise program that started in February 2014 also brought four free trips to the transfer station, which helps when a pile won't fit at the curb.
The city's own cleanup runs ward by ward. For fall 2026, the Biggest Little Fall Refresh set one Saturday for each of Reno's six wards, every one at a school. The events are free and open to all Reno residents, and only residential bulky waste goes in the bins. Paint, chemicals, electronics, asbestos and smoke detectors stay home. A separate citywide Saturday took hazardous waste and e-waste instead, plus one large appliance and up to seven tires per household.
Mattresses are the hard part here. Nevada's environmental agency says the state doesn't have a mattress recycling program right now, and it points to sites in California that take them for a fee.
At a ward cleanup, show up early. Each one opens at 9 a.m. and closes at noon, or sooner if the Waste Management bins fill up first. Once they're full, nothing else gets taken.
