Junk removal in Richmond
If you know your recycling week in Richmond, you know your bulk day. Under City Code, bulk items go out on your trash day during your recycling week, so once every two weeks, all year long. Set them by your trash cans the night before, in the same spot as household trash. Crews usually come that day. If they miss you, they'll come back by Saturday of that recycling week. If things are still sitting there after the second Saturday, call 311. Don't call the Central Virginia Waste Management Authority, since this isn't a recycling program.
Appliances aren't part of the regular run. The city collects them separately, for a charge per appliance, and it offers a paid 24-hour bulk and brush pickup if two weeks is too long to wait. Both are paid by check or money order only.
The every-other-week truck won't take construction debris, bricks, drywall, pipes, carpet, paint, tires, gas or propane tanks, auto parts or lawn mowers.
If you'd rather haul it yourself, the city's East Richmond Road Convenience Center and the Hopkins Road Transfer Station both take bulk and brush, on weekdays and on Saturdays until 2 p.m.
The lawn mower on that list is easy to miss. Leave it out, and it stays put.
