Junk removal in Rochester

"Have large items? We'll take them." That's how the City of Rochester's own services guide puts it. Furniture, mattresses, bedding and large appliances go to the curb on your normal refuse day. There's no separate bulk day to book.

A few prep rules apply. Take the doors off a fridge or any other appliance. Loose wood and brush get tied in bundles no longer than four feet and no wider than 18 inches, at 60 pounds or less, and any nails get pulled or pounded flat. Everything goes between the sidewalk and the curb by 6:30 a.m., without blocking the sidewalk or the street.

The curb won't take your electronics. TVs, computers, printers, game consoles, phones, even the cords, go to Monroe County's ecopark instead. It's a drop-off for county residents, open Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings, and it also takes appliances, scrap metal and propane tanks.

Can't wait for refuse day? Say a tenant just moved out, or you're clearing a house before work starts. The city's On-Demand Service will come for a fee, and for more than 10 cubic yards it rents roll-off containers.

One line in the guide matters if you're helping someone else clean out. Refuse set out in front of a house has to come from that house.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
