Stucco repair in Bakersfield

Bakersfield learned in 1952 that a building can ride out one quake and fail in the next. The big Kern County earthquake that July was centered about 23 miles south of town. Then on August 22, an aftershock struck about 6 miles east-southeast of the city.

Caltech's seismology center says that aftershock did outsized damage for three reasons. It was the closest sizable one to Bakersfield. It came after at least 18 others of magnitude 5 or more had weakened buildings for a month. And it shook at a high frequency, the kind that targets short, rigid buildings. Most of the damage was to brick structures across 64 blocks of downtown.

Most houses here are far younger. Half the homes in the metro were built in 1986 or later, Census estimates show, and nearly three in ten in 2000 or after. The lesson still holds for stucco, though. A wall that rides out one round of shaking can come out of it weaker, and the next quake finds what the last one started.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo tells us a lot about the type and size of the damage, but a local pro who walks the wall will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
What does stucco repair usually cost?
Small patch jobs often land in the low hundreds. Cracks across a whole wall, or water damage behind the stucco, can run into the thousands. Your photo and ZIP help us narrow it to a range that fits your area.
Do I need to know the square footage?
No. Take your best guess if you can, but if you’re not sure, just skip it — we’ll estimate the size from your photo and your answers.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A clear shot of the damaged area in daylight, plus one from a few steps back so we can see how big it is. More photos help.
