Stucco repair in Little Rock

On January 21, 1999, an F3 tornado tore through a historic district in Little Rock and heavily damaged several homes built around the turn of the 20th century, by the weather service's account. Old houses here have taken hits before, and some of the oldest wear stucco.

You can see that stucco in the MacArthur Park Historic District. Its design guidelines say stucco helps define the district's character, on homes and apartments in Tudor, English Revival, Craftsman and Art Deco styles. Most use it with half-timbering on the upper floors or gable ends, over brick below. Texture is a clue to age: heavily textured stucco often shows up on buildings from before the 1920s, smooth stucco after.

The guidelines read like a maintenance plan. Inspect stucco every year and deal with cracks before water gets in. Small cracks can be closed with paint or acrylic caulk. If damage runs across most of a wall, redoing the whole section may last longer than a patchwork, and control joints help keep new cracks from forming. The guidelines also rule out EIFS, the foam-backed look-alike, as a stand-in for historic stucco.

The storms haven't stopped. On March 31, 2023, an EF3 tornado with 165 mph winds tracked just over 34 miles from west Little Rock to near Cabot, and at least 2,700 structures were affected.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo tells us a lot about the type and size of the damage, but a local pro who walks the wall will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
What does stucco repair usually cost?
Small patch jobs often land in the low hundreds. Cracks across a whole wall, or water damage behind the stucco, can run into the thousands. Your photo and ZIP help us narrow it to a range that fits your area.
Do I need to know the square footage?
No. Take your best guess if you can, but if you’re not sure, just skip it — we’ll estimate the size from your photo and your answers.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A clear shot of the damaged area in daylight, plus one from a few steps back so we can see how big it is. More photos help.
