Stucco repair in Winston-Salem

White stucco under a green tile roof is a look Winston-Salem grew up with. Reynolda House, the Reynolds family's country home, was designed by Charles Barton Keen and finished in 1917. Its white stuccoed walls and green Ludowici-Celadon tile roof inspired numerous local houses, along with the estate's own outbuildings.

What's behind that white finish varies, and it matters when you fix one. At Reynolda Village, most of the white walls were stucco on metal lath, and a few buildings had clapboard instead. The barns were built of reinforced concrete slabs and structural clay tile, then covered with stucco. Two walls with the same white face can need very different repairs. On metal lath, water that gets in through a crack can start rusting the metal.

Keen's office kept using the look. In 1927, Keen's firm designed a big stuccoed Georgian Revival house at 2025 Buena Vista Road, under a green Ludowici-Celadon tile roof. A 2023 National Register nomination for another Winston-Salem house looks at a group of classically styled homes from that period and finds every one clad in brick or stucco. If you own one of them, you're keeping up a finish that was part of the design from day one.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo tells us a lot about the type and size of the damage, but a local pro who walks the wall will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
What does stucco repair usually cost?
Small patch jobs often land in the low hundreds. Cracks across a whole wall, or water damage behind the stucco, can run into the thousands. Your photo and ZIP help us narrow it to a range that fits your area.
Do I need to know the square footage?
No. Take your best guess if you can, but if you’re not sure, just skip it — we’ll estimate the size from your photo and your answers.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A clear shot of the damaged area in daylight, plus one from a few steps back so we can see how big it is. More photos help.
