Window replacement in the Middle Atlantic states
New Jersey and Pennsylvania both go easy on a same-size window swap. New Jersey's construction code calls replacing a window in the same opening, without changing its size or framing, ordinary maintenance, with no permit or inspection. Pennsylvania's code doesn't reach house alterations with no structural change, and a minor framing change to fit a replacement window isn't structural, unless a local ordinance says otherwise.
