Exterior paint in Houston
In Houston, the weather decides when a painter can work. Bush Intercontinental's rain gauge fills to close to 52 inches over twelve months, and the thermometer passes 90°F on more than 110 days. That adds up to a lot of muggy mornings and stormy afternoons.
Both matter for paint. Paint can dry badly when the air is that humid, Benjamin Moore cautions. On a sticky morning, your siding can stay wet with dew after sunrise, and a crew may have to wait for it to dry. A storm after lunch can end the day early. So a job here can take more calendar days than the hours alone suggest.
Mildew is the other Houston problem. Shady walls, the side behind the hedge and the underside of the eaves grow dark spots, and fresh paint over them won't hold for long. Good prep starts with cleaning those spots off and letting the wall dry all the way.
Houston has built so much since 2000 that close to half its homes are newer than that. Newer siding still gets the same muggy mornings and the same mildew, though, so the prep doesn't get to skip the wash.
