Window replacement in Houston

On May 16, 2024, a derecho pushed a swath of winds over 100 mph down through the Houston metro, and the weather service recorded widespread damage. You don't need a hurricane here for wind to find your windows.

On the coast, the state sets extra rules. All of Galveston, Brazoria and Chambers counties sit in Texas's designated catastrophe area, along with the parts of La Porte, Morgan's Point, Pasadena, Seabrook and Shore Acres that lie inside city limits and east of Highway 146. Homeowners there may not be able to buy private wind and hail coverage, and those who can't can buy a policy from the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. For most homes, that means holding a certificate of compliance, proof that the work meets the building code and can stand up to high winds.

That shapes a window job on the coastal side of the metro. Replacing only the glass is one of the Texas Department of Insurance's examples of work that needs no windstorm inspection. Most alterations do need one. TDI's own advice is to ask your contractor up front how they will meet the inspection requirement and get the certificate.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo shows us the window type and material, but a local pro who measures each opening will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is window replacement priced?
Mostly by the window — the number of windows times a per-window price for the material and size. Tell us how many you’re replacing and we’ll do the math.
What if I only photograph one window?
That’s fine for the per-window price, but we can’t count your whole house from one photo. Pop in how many windows you want done and the ballpark gets a lot tighter.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A clear shot of a typical window — inside or out — plus a note on how many you’re replacing.
