Junk removal in Ann Arbor
Don't drag an old couch to the curb in Ann Arbor. The city says furniture, mattresses and appliances left there won't be picked up, and you could be fined. Its trash carts also refuse carpet, tires, construction material, concrete, electronics and Freon appliances.
Instead, the city sends you to two sites run by Recycle Ann Arbor, a non-profit. The Drop-Off Station on East Ellsworth Road takes electronics, appliances including Freon ones, tires, light bulbs and textiles, plus furniture and other general waste. It's self-service. Staff can't unload your vehicle, so bring a friend for the heavy pieces. From November to March, bulky waste, furniture and scrap metal may be turned away after 5 p.m., because the lighting is low where they're stored.
The Recovery Yard on Jackson Road handles a remodel's leftovers. It takes heavy construction debris, treated wood, brick, tile, pianos, furniture, mattresses and railroad ties, and it rents roll-off containers for renovations and cleanouts. Neither site takes paint, latex or oil-based. Leftover oil paints, solvents and pesticides go to the Washtenaw County Home Toxics Center.
One more thing sets the Recovery Yard apart. Recycle Ann Arbor calls it Michigan's only non-profit, mission-based construction and demolition recycler, and it sorts concrete, clean wood, cardboard and metal out of the debris so they can be recycled.
