Junk removal in Asheville

Moving into or out of a house in Asheville? The city will collect a large amount of trash from the move, one time. You set it up the same way as any bulky pickup: call (828) 251-1122 or use The Asheville App.

Regular bulky pickup is on request, too. Chairs, beds, mattresses and box springs, sofas and other big pieces all qualify. Have them at the curb by 7 a.m. on your scheduled day. Old carpet goes out in 4-foot rolls, tied with string or twine, not wire.

Appliances are a separate request: stoves, ovens, fridges, freezers, dishwashers, washers, dryers, air conditioners, trash compactors and water heaters. The city's page notes that North Carolina law bars dumping appliances in a landfill. If you'd rather haul things yourself, residents can take waste straight to the Buncombe County Landfill or Transfer Station.

Yard cleanup has tighter rules. Brush goes out every other week, at the curb by 7 a.m. on the Monday of your week, at least 5 feet from fences, meters, poles, mailboxes, hydrants and cars. Plastic bags have been banned for brush and leaves since August 1, 2023. Use paper yard bags up to 25 pounds, or a labeled rigid container. Big land-clearing piles aren't collected, and anything a landscaper or contractor cut is theirs to haul away.

The city's size rule names bamboo, too. Like any limb, it has to be cut to 4-foot lengths, no more than 6 inches across. Thorny trimmings get a pile of their own.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
