Junk removal in Eugene

An old mattress doesn't travel far from Eugene. St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County recycles them at its own facility on Prairie Road. When Oregon's mattress stewardship law took effect on January 1, 2025, it announced free drop-off there for up to ten mattresses or box springs per household, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lane County's Glenwood Transfer Station, on East 17th, is the other free option, up to four units a day. Glenwood is the only county station that recycles them. Take a mattress to any other county transfer station and it's charged as garbage instead. From April through September, Glenwood is open every day of the week. From October through March, it closes on Sundays.

Hauling an old fridge or washer? The county takes appliances at every station but Sharps Creek, and they have to be empty. Don't cut the cords, and don't try to drain the refrigerant yourself.

Before any of it gets tossed, the county says reuse is best, and it names Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, BRING and ReStore. BRING, on Franklin Boulevard, calls itself the region's go-to spot for salvaged and surplus building materials, and it takes donations until 4 p.m. daily.

One rural site is gone, too. Lane County's Walton transfer station closed permanently on August 10, 2026.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
