Garage door in Raleigh

Raleigh has taken hurricane wind before, even this far from the beach. North Carolina Emergency Management's storm history says Hazel passed over Raleigh in 1954. In 1996, Fran was downgraded to a tropical storm just before it reached the city, still packing winds of 79 mph, and major damage was reported inland through Raleigh. The city's fire department says in its own storm guide that hurricanes can affect areas more than 100 miles inland.

Fire brings a different set of instructions for the same door. The North Carolina Department of Insurance's storm page says that if a wildfire threatens your home, detach electric garage doors. It also says to back your car into the garage and leave the keys in the ignition.

For wind, the state's hurricane page singles the garage door out by name. Reinforce garage doors, it says, because if wind enters a garage it can cause dangerous structural damage.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. Your garage door shows up clearly in a photo — its size, material, and condition — but a pro who checks the springs and opener in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
What changes the price of a garage door?
First, whether you’re repairing or replacing — a spring or opener fix costs far less than a new door. For a replacement, the size (single vs double), the material (steel is cheapest, wood the priciest), and whether you add a new opener are the big factors.
Can you tell if my spring is broken from a photo?
Not reliably — a broken spring or a failing opener usually doesn’t show in a photo of a closed door. We’ll give you a repair range, but the exact part is best confirmed in person.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
A straight-on shot of the whole garage door from the driveway, plus a close-up of any damage like a dented panel, gives us the best read.
