Pressure washing in San Diego

San Diego's stormwater code doesn't care who holds the hose. Under Section 43.0304, letting dirty wash water from a pressure wash reach a gutter, street or alley is an illegal discharge. The city's Think Blue fact sheet on pressure washing says the rule applies whether the work is done by the owner, a tenant or a contractor.

So a wash here comes with a plan for the water. Sweep up dirt and debris first. Block nearby drains with covers or sandbags. Use a biodegradable, phosphate-free detergent. Then push the runoff onto a lawn or planter bed, but only if the soil can soak it up without it running off. If there's no planting to take it, the water gets picked up with a mop or wet vac and poured into a sink, toilet or sewer cleanout. A puddle left on the concrete to dry doesn't count.

The water code adds its own limits. Section 67.3803, amended in July 2026, treats washing down a driveway, sidewalk or other paved area as water waste unless you use a power washer or a hose with a shutoff nozzle.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on the surface and how dirty it is, but a pro who sees the whole property will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is pressure washing priced?
Mostly by the square footage and the surface — a concrete driveway is cheaper per foot than siding or a wood deck, which need a gentler soft-wash. Heavy algae, mildew, or oil stains add to it because they take detergent and a second pass.
Will pressure washing damage my siding or deck?
It can if it’s done at full pressure on the wrong surface — that’s why good pros soft-wash siding and wood. Our ballpark factors in the gentler method for delicate surfaces.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot showing the full surface you want cleaned — the whole driveway or the side of the house — gives the best read on the size and how dirty it is.
