Window replacement in Las Vegas
Las Vegas hit 120 degrees on July 7, 2024, the hottest reading in the city's records, and tied it the next day, the Southern Nevada Health District says. An ordinary summer is rough enough. NOAA puts the average summer high at 102, with about nine days a year at 110 or more. For your windows, the sun is the main event.
The energy code agrees. Clark County adopted the 2024 energy code with Southern Nevada amendments, and it has been in effect since January 11, 2026. The valley is in climate zone 3B on the federal map, and for zone 3 the county's table caps a window's solar heat gain coefficient at 0.25 and its U-factor at 0.30. The first number is how much of the sun's heat the glass lets in. The second is how fast heat leaks through. Lower is better on both. One twist: the amendments treat parts of the county above 4,000 feet as the colder zone 5B.
Within the city of Las Vegas, the permit line is drawn at the wall. Cutting in a new window or widening an opening needs a permit. Swapping glass of the same size, type and thickness, with no change to the framing, is on the no-permit list, unless the glass is part of a fire-rated wall.
The houses are young, too. Half the homes in the metro were built in 1999 or later.
