Junk removal in New England
Old mattresses get their own route in three New England states. Connecticut and Rhode Island both run the Mattress Recycling Council's Bye Bye Mattress program, and in both, most town transfer stations take part and accept mattresses from town residents. In Rhode Island, any resident can also bring one to Tough Stuff Recycling in Pawtucket or the Central Landfill in Johnston. Massachusetts changed its rule on November 1, 2022: from then on, waste disposal companies without a state contract could no longer accept mattresses.
