Junk removal in Providence
Providence hands its bulky pickup to the city's contractor, Waste Management, and the set-out window is an odd one: between 4 p.m. the evening before and 4 a.m. on collection day. Book through the online form or by calling Waste Management. The service covers buildings of six or fewer units that get city trash pickup, with up to three items per unit. Keep the sidewalk clear. In a bigger building, the owner or property manager has to make the arrangements.
Mattresses aren't part of that pickup, and there are two other routes for them. Providence residents can drop off up to two unbagged mattresses or box springs at the Department of Public Works on Allens Avenue on Saturday mornings, with a valid Providence ID. Or Waste Management will collect them from the curb as a paid service.
The same Saturday drop-off behind 700 Allens Avenue takes old electronics too, or you can book an e-waste collection with Waste Management.
Paint and tires count as hazardous materials here. They go to one of Rhode Island Resource Recovery's Eco-Depot events, along with oil, pesticides and mercury devices, and every event needs an appointment.
