Junk removal in Wichita

Wichita doesn't pick up your trash. Your hauler does. City code says the occupant of every single-family home has to arrange, and pay for, a solid waste collector to take the household's trash at least once a week. The county counts about 145,900 households in Wichita, and they can contract with haulers directly. So who takes your old couch, and how, comes down to the company you signed with.

Sedgwick County keeps the list of businesses licensed to haul waste here. Waste Connections, Waste Management and Allen and Sons Waste Service are among the ones based in Wichita. If yours offers a bulky pickup, its rules are the ones that count.

Hauling it yourself is the other route. Since the county changed Section 24-30(b) of its Solid Waste Code, construction and demolition material is accepted at any transfer station. Trash dumped there is loaded onto semi-trailers and trucked to the Plumb Thicket Landfill in Harper County.

Two construction and demolition landfills in the county are open to the public. CDR is on West 37th North. Brooks is on North West Street, with longer summer hours from March through October, and it runs a compost site too.

Paint, garden chemicals and car fluids go to the county's Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 801 Stillwell. It held a grand reopening after an expansion on August 22, 2025.

At either C&D landfill, call first to ask what your load will run, and come ready to pay in cash.

Questions homeowners ask

How accurate is a photo estimate?
It’s a ballpark, not a quote. A photo gives us a good read on how much there is, but a hauler who sees it in person will always be more precise. Use our number as the range to expect before you start calling around.
How is junk removal priced?
By how much of a truck your stuff fills — a few items cost far less than a full truckload. Heavy or special items like appliances and mattresses add a disposal fee.
Do you handle big or heavy items?
Most haulers do — appliances, furniture, mattresses, construction debris. Let us know in the quick questions so the ballpark includes the disposal fees.
Is this really free?
Yes. No signup, no credit card, no spam. We only make money if you choose to connect with a local pro — and that’s up to you.
What photo works best?
One shot that shows the whole pile, or the full room, gives the best read on how much there is.
