Stucco repair in Springfield
A tornado came out of West Springfield on the afternoon of June 1, 2011, crossed the Connecticut River at the Memorial Avenue Bridge and tore into Springfield. The weather service rated it EF3, with top winds near 160 mph, and its path ran 39 miles from Westfield to Charlton. It caused extensive damage on the south side of downtown, where many homes were destroyed and large brick commercial buildings lost their roofs. Near Springfield College, town homes and apartments took severe structural damage, and in the Island Pond section many homes were completely destroyed.
Not much of Springfield's housing is new. About 37 percent of homes in the city were built before 1940, by Census count. Across the metro, only about one home in eleven went up in 2000 or later. If you're calling about stucco here, odds are it's an old wall that needs a repair, not a new one.
Federal energy maps put Hampden County in climate zone 5A, cold and moist, with real winters to match. A repair done well before the cold sets in has a better shot at lasting.
