Junk removal in Salt Lake City
Call 2 Haul, Salt Lake City's bulky item collection, is for big items. In the city's own words, it isn't a "pile" program. Even so, the city sizes what you set out: about 8 feet wide, 4 feet deep and 4 feet high, which it compares to a pickup bed or an SUV full of stuff. Leave 10 feet of open space on either side if you can, and keep it 5 feet from hydrants, trees, poles, mailboxes and walls. Small loose things have to be bagged or boxed, 60 pounds at most per bag or box.
Homes on city waste service, including most duplexes and triplexes, can book one bulky item collection and one green waste collection each calendar year, in any season. You schedule both with the city's team, so save the bulky one for the big stuff.
Dirt, sod, rocks, concrete and asphalt are out entirely. The city suggests feeding them into your weekly garbage cart, never more than a quarter full at a time, so the cart doesn't break.
Neighbors can team up: up to 20 households can schedule a neighborhood collection. Each home's items still go in front of that home, and it uses up each household's pickup for the year.
One warning. The trees in your park strip belong to the city, and pruning them to fill a pile is against the law.
